The Big Ten

I currently work as a full time graphic designer at Ginghamsburg Church. One function of my job is to create design packages for sermon series. Exports include resources for marketing, presentation and environmental design. This example demonstrates my use of A.I. and Adobe Photoshop to a unique visual vernacular.

At first, I knew nothing of the sermon series except the title, “The Big Ten.” To generate ideas, I prompted ChatGPT with the following:

“We're starting a new worship series called, "The Big Ten" about the Ten Commandments. I need an epic visualization, modernized for a contemporary audience. Maybe "The Big TEN" written on an iPad? I'm open to suggestions. Give me rendered image ideas at 16x9”

After team conversations about the series’ felt-need, my aim was to modernize the Ten Commandments in a way that gave expressive freedom. Reframing the Ten Commandments as generative and not restrictive gave life to old rules.

Concept Design

A modern table (iPad) was the perfect medium for presenting the Ten Commandments in a new way. Recreating one of the ideas from ChatGPT, I downloaded an iPad image from a free photo sharing website, then masked it and added textures in photoshop. I used the structural reference tool in Adobe Firefly to generate a variety of artistic expression for each commandment, using a large roman numeral ten (X) as a symbolic window into the life of each “rule”.

Creative Play.

Good design can live and breathe. The playful nature of this sermon series created new conversations about the life-giving attitude of the Ten Commandments. Generative A.I. provided a variety of style that precisely articulated our felt-need, and Photoshop delivered the proper layering and formatting for a flexible and adaptable design.
