Brand Identity Refresh

Pets n’ Style Logo Redesign

This project became more personal than I expected. We go to church with the owners, which means we were regular customers at Pets n’ Style grooming salon. Soon after negotiating store credit as compensation for a fresh logo, our dog became ill with immune hemolytic anemia. She did not survive long. I worked out my grief by including her likeness in the initial concepts. There was a little bit of, “eh, what now?” since our compensation agreement no longer made sense. That is, until we got a new puppy several months later. With a healed heart, I was able to deliver a new logo that the team at Pets n’ Style really loves.

The Original Logo

Not much was articulated in terms of what wasn’t working. The owners simply stated it was time for a refresh. Having been a customer, I knew enough about the culture, vibe and tone to get started.

Initial Concept

In capturing the likeness of our lost pup, I focused on three keywords: Playful, cute and cool. The client had positive feedback about these concepts, but I knew I needed some time before thinking more objectively about the new logo.

For the official pitch, I wanted to include more professional options–ones with less playfulness and more representative of a traditional salon. The team at Pets n’ Style always does top-notch work, and a professional look could elevate them to the top of their local market.

A New Logo and Brand Identity

A professional tone is exactly what Pets n’ Style was looking for. Together, we developed a simple icon and color palette with enough flexibility to scale as they grow.

A logo is only part of a much larger visual language. Choosing font family, colors, patterns and other variable designs can add years to the life of a store’s brand. A good logo can also add variety and vibrancy to its daily existence. Wayfinding, product labeling, marketing and decor should all joyfully co-exist within the folds of generously defined design parameters. How can I help you refresh your brand or create something completely new?
